Fools Made Wise #69

Proverbs 12:2:

A good man shall obtain favor from Yahweh, but he will condemn a man of wicked plans.

The sixty-ninth comic of Fools Made Wise starts with James walking into the bar looking for Leroy. He asks Javier (affectionately known to Leroy as “beer guy”) if Leroy has been there this week. Javier exclaims, “This week? He’s here every day man!” He then proceeds to call Leroy for James.

Leroy shows up in a cranky mood and is quite surprised to see James (it’s the last place, actually, that Leroy would expect to see him). James tells him that Dad wanted him to give Leroy a letter. Leroy is not excited about that, and just thinks Pop is doing that to “curry more favor with the man upstairs. This shows us the first part of Proverbs 12:2, that “A good man will obtain favor with Yahweh.”

Unfortunately, Leroy tells James that he is NOT going to read these letters, and that Pop is wasting his time with “wicked ol’ Leroy.” James tells him that Dad is not going to stop, so Leroy tells him that when he gets his own place, he’ll stack up all Pop’s silly letters under the weak end of the couch. In doing so, Leroy tells James that “his condemnation will reach it’s full.” This shows us the second part of Proverbs 12:2, that (God) will condemn a man of wicked plans.

Leroy seems to “know” both things intellectually, but the full weight of the truth hasn’t sunk into his heart.

Thoroughly fed up with Leroy, James just tells him, “Whatever, man, it’s your life,” and the comic ends with Leroy wanting to play him in a game of darts. Leroy (tries) to strike up a quick deal with him: loser pays for a round (which is a good thing because he doesn’t have any cash on him. Can’t you just hear Leroy now: “All Leroy’s money went to wise investments, broski! C’mon, you know Ol’ Royski is good for it!” Oh, Leroy…

This comic shows us that when we trust Jesus, He starts to make us into “good men”— we start living in a way that pleases God and in a way that He can bless. But when we are far from God, it is all too easy to get caught up in wicked living. May we learn from Leroy to make the wise choice: receive Jesus, and live wisely as a result!
