Fools Made Wise #75

Proverbs 12:8:

A man shall be commended according to his wisdom, but he who has a warped mind shall be despised.

The seventy-fifth comic of Fools Made Wise starts with Leroy walking and talking to himself. He realizes just how hard it is being on his own, so he decides he needs something sweet to take the edge off his situation.

In panel 2, we see Leroy at the ice cream shop, telling Skippy to give him the biggest ice cream cone he can– four scoops.

In the next panel, as he is walking out enjoying his ice cream, Leroy sees a woman walking into the shop and Leroy tells her the key to prolonging life is enjoying every pleasure you can now. As he says this, he winks at her.

Leroy must have a very short memory because this was the lady he hit on from comic #10 (he called her babe, asked her if she had a date for Friday night, and did all this with her husband standing right behind him).

This lady, NOT forgetting that previous exchange, tells Leroy to get away from her and calls him a scumbag.

The comic ends with Leroy not understanding (as usual) the gravity of the situation: he thinks the woman has an issue with ice cream, but in reality, she has an issue with Leroy.

This comic is ironic in nature. Proverbs 12:7 says that a man shall be commended according to his wisdom. Leroy doesn’t have anything even closely related to wisdom to share, so instead of being commended, he is sharply dismissed. The second part of Proverbs 12:7 actually fits him better: he who has a warped mind shall be despised: that is Leroy all right! His mind has been warped by the desires of his flesh, and as such, he finds himself shocked that others steer clear of him.

This comic shows us the difference between what can bring us close to others, or what can make us repulsive to them: those who have real wisdom and both live it and share it— this draws people in. But those with warped minds only set on the flesh leads to being despised in the end. May we choose the wiser path, and be commended according to our wisdom because of it!
