Fools Made Wise #64

Proverbs 1:1:

The Proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, King of Israel.

The sixty-fourth comic of Fools Made Wise, starts what I am calling “the LETTERS section of Proverbs” (Proverbs 1-9). In this section, a father writes a series of letters to his son. In Fools Made Wise,
after each chapter of comics, Pop is going to write a letter (based on these verses)… and as you can guess, Leroy isn’t going to listen to them…yet.

So the next four comics (#64-68) is the first letter Pop is writing to Leroy. So this particular comic starts with James coming into the room, curious what Pop is doing. Pop tells him he is writing Leroy a letter, hopefully the first of many. James tells him to not waste his time on that because Leroy is never going to read them.

Pop responds by saying that he can’t control that. Pop reminds James that when they both moved back to help with the farm (after Pop had a heart attack), he wanted to instill wisdom into them both (like his father did with him). He tells James that he picked up on it quickly, but Leroy… not so much.

Pop tells James that he is going to write down all the things he learned from his dad— and pass them onto Leroy, praying that he will one day read them. James isn’t as optimistic and tells Pop he is going to plow the left field.

The comic ends with Pop pulling out his letterhead which reads, “From the desk of Phil Jr., son of Phil Sr., owner of Steady Pace Farms. These words on his letterhead reminds us of Proverbs 1:1, “The Proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, the King of Israel.”

This comic shows us that tenacity of wisdom: it comes looking for us. Even though Leroy was out living a life of sin, his father never stopped loving him and wanting him to come home. May we know the love and wisdom of our Father, and unlike Leroy, RECEIVE all He is trying to send our way!
