Fools Made Wise #63

Proverbs 11:31:

Behold, the righteous shall be repaid in the earth; how much more the wicked and the sinner!

The sixty-third comic of Fools Made Wise starts with Leroy in Petey’s car waving goodbye to his Dad, Mom, and brother. He tells them, “Sayonara, suckers! Thanks for nothing!”

James is NOT happy with that. He is THRILLED Leroy has finally left and wonders what the farm will be like when Leroy isn’t there “wasting space.”

James’ mother catches him and says that that is no way to talk about his brother. She reminds him that they took Leroy in to give him a second chance. Unfortunately, it didn’t go so well, but she
believes God will bless them all for it in the end. This reminds us of the first part of Proverbs 11:31, “Behold, the righteous shall be
repaid in the earth.”

The last two panels shifts to Leroy in Petey’s car. Leroy is talking to himself and wonders what life will be like without his “stupid family” getting all up in his space. Similar to what they said about him, Leroy says that he gave them a second chance; it didn’t go so well, but Leroy believes the “Man Upstairs” will pour out His wrath on them for how they treated Leroy.

What Leroy DOESN’T understand is the SECOND part of Proverbs 11:31: “How much more the wicked and the sinner (shall be repaid in the earth!”) In his mind, his family has what is coming to them, but in reality, it’s just the opposite. Leroy has treated them terribly, and the cost for his sins against them will eventually catch up to him in the end.

This comic reminds us that we all have a choice how we are going to live: we can either accept Jesus and live righteously in this life, or we can ignore God and decide for ourselves what is right and wrong. One path leads to blessing; the other to misery. Which path are we going to choose?
