Fools Made Wise #62

Proverbs 11:30:

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. He who is wise wins souls.

The sixty-second comic of Fools Made Wise starts with Leroy and Pop standing in front of Petey’s car. Pop tells Leroy that he is going to send him something in the mail after he gets an address.

Leroy asks Pop if it is greenbacks. Pop answers, “No, not greenbacks.” Leroy then asks, “Is it Leroy’s inheritance?” He then proceeds to absolutely disrespect his father by telling him that he is going to get a nice chunk of change when he is dead and gone.
Who says that?!

Despite how awful what Leroy just said was, Pop tells him it isn’t his inheritance either. He tells him that he is going to send him a series of letters. He asks Leroy to read them and promises they will be life to his soul. This shows us the first part of Proverbs 11:30, that “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life.”

Again, Leroy pours on the disrespect by telling Pop that if the letters don’t have money in them, he doesn’t have time for them. At this, James has had enough. He tells Leroy that Dad is just tying to save his soul, and that he’d better listen to him. This shows us the second part of Proverbs 11:30, “He who is wise wins souls.” That is exactly what Pop, and James, are trying to do with Leroy.

The comic ends with Leroy sticking his fingers in his ears and saying, “Blah, blah, blah. Save Leroy’s soul? Save your breath, snitch! The only thing needing saving is you guys when Leroy isn’t here to keep this place afloat!” Oh, Leroy…

This comic shows us what comes from a righteous life is being a tree of life for others. This looks like sharing the gospel with those who don’t yet know Jesus, and allowing every part of our lives to point to Jesus. May others taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8) through our lives and witness!
