Fools Made Wise #53

Proverbs 11:21:

Most certainly, the evil man will not be unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will be delivered.

The fifty-third comic of Fools Made Wise starts with Leroy walking out of Ryder Gas. He finished drinking all the beers he swindled off Dally, threw them all on the floor, and walked outside to see Spike and Snarky (two of Dally’s friends) waiting for him.

Leroy asks them, quite rudely (he calls them ‘turkeys’) if they have any smokes. Spike answers that after what Leroy did to his friend Dally, he’d better just keep walking before he gets a beat down.

Leroy thinks to himself: “What would Leroy’s brother say in a time like this? He always seems to avoid trouble…”- exactly!  James lives by biblical principles and shows us the second part of Proverbs 11:21, that, “The offspring of the righteous will be delivered.”

After thinking for a sum total of 4 seconds, Leroy tells Spike that he and his friends can’t touch Leroy because, as a “descendent of the gods”, he has royal blood in him.

Thinking he has the upper hand, Snarky pops his bubble. He tells Spike that Leroy sounds like he needs some sense knocked into him, and that they should see just how divine he really is. Leroy throws up his fists and tells them that he didn’t say royal but DESTROYER, and that they should eat thunder and lightning. This part of the comic shows us the first part of Proverbs 11:21, that “Most certainly, the evil man will not be unpunished.”

Leroy’s life is a case study in foolishness. Instead of making wise choices, Leroy continues to make one foolish choice after another. And just when you think he couldn’t possibly act more foolishly, he surprises us and plummets himself further into folly. May we learn from Leroy to walk a different path: one of righteousness, wisdom, and sound judgment through a relationship with Jesus!
