Fools Made Wise #46

Proverbs 11:14:

Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory.

The forty-sixth comic of Fools Made Wise starts with James and Leroy watching television together. James is flipping through the channels and Leroy is chugging down his third beer.

As James flips through the channels, he exclaims, “Look at this stuff, Leroy. Each channel has more bad stuff than the last. What’s our nation coming to?” To this, Leroy replies with the sage response, “Eh.”

James continues: “Everyone’s their own authority. People are only doing what’s right in their own eyes.” To this, Leroy lights a cigarette (inside!) and replies with the well-thought-through answer, “Eh.”

James continues: “A nation can’t last for long like that. I just wonder how much longer we have before the shoe drops.” To this, Leroy starts to chug down his fourth beer and replies with the erudite, “Eh.”

James brings his observations to their point: “All I know is that our founding fathers founded this place on God’s wisdom and we’re running it into the ground with our foolishness!” Everything James has been saying bears out the truth found in Proverbs 11:14, that “Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory”

Instead of listening to anything his brother just told him, Leroy tells him that he needs to lay low for a bit. His friends encouraged him to steal a moving truck and he’s in quite the pickle because of it. Leroy tells James: “If the cops come, you didn’t see Leroy, got it?”

As usual, Leroy is demonstrating for us that when we live life with no wise guidance (and instead listen to fools), the outcome is usually destructive in some way. But if we allow Jesus to guide us (and if we listen to people who love and follow Him), the outcome is victory for us and for those around us. May we have the grace to choose wisely!
