Proverbs 11:19:
He who is truly righteous gets life. He who pursues evil gets death.
The fifty-first comic of Fools Made Wise starts with Leroy still at Ryder Gas. After taking $20 from Dally (the guy in the orange sports car from comic #50), Leroy is now drinking down a beer with many others in hand.
Dally comes into the store in a huff, telling Leroy he didn’t pay him to come into the store to take a break. He asks him if he is going to finish filling up his car or not.
Leroy asks him what all the fussing is about and tells him he doesn’t work here. At this, Dally hits the ceiling! He demands that Leroy give him his money back. Leroy tells him he is going to have to take a rain-check on that one, and tells him to hit the road because he’s busy. This shows us the second part of Proverbs 11:19, that “He who pursues evil gets death.”
With fist raised, Dally grabs Leroy and is about to hit him when a beautiful woman (named Sophia) stops him. She de-escalates the situation by telling Dally she would pay him back DOUBLE of what Leroy took from him.
Dally is flabbergasted: “And save this jerk’s life? He isn’t worth it!” Sophia tells him he doesn’t know that, and the comic ends with Dally telling Leroy this isn’t over and that he needs to watch his back. Sophia stepping in shows us the first part of Proverbs 11:19, that “He who is truly righteous gets life.”
In these comics, Leroy represents FOOLISHNESS from the book of Proverbs, and Sophia is going to represent LADY WISDOM that we see all throughout the book. Wisdom calls out to us, beckons us to listen to her: will we do that and get life? Or will we go our own way and get death? Like always, the choice is ours!
