Proverbs 10:24:
What the wicked fear, will overtake them, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.
The twenty-fourth comic of Fools Made Wise starts with Leroy talking with Petey at the bar. Leroy is quite afraid, and tells Petey he doesn’t think he’s been this scared before. He even tells Petey he is as white as a sheet!
Petey asks him what’s wrong, and Leroy tells him that Pop called and told him that because his brother is sick, Leroy is going to have to work for him today. Pop even prayed that Leroy would do the right thing.
Petey doesn’t think that is so bad, but Leroy doesn’t agree. Leroy knows that Pop has a special connection with God, and the things he prays for typically happen (this shows us the second part of Proverbs 10:24, that the desire of the righteous will be granted).
Knowing that Pop has been praying for Leroy to work since he turned 18, and knowing that God is clearly on Pop’s side, Leroy is horrified that he may actually have to work, and feels doomed at the thought. This shows the first part of Proverbs 10:24, that what the wicked fear will overtake them.
We have a choice how we are going to live life: we can live it in FEAR, constantly frightened that the things we dread will eventually overtake us. Or we can live in FAITH, that because we have placed our trust in Jesus, we are new people with new desires, and God delights to grant these desires to us (in His time and way, though). What will we choose today?
2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT): For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
