Fools Made Wise #17

Proverbs 10:17:

He is in the way of life who heeds correction, but he who forsakes reproof leads others astray.

The seventeenth comic of Fools Made Wise starts with Leroy walking in and Pop confronting him that he is late to work again. Leroy tells Pop that it doesn’t count this time because he was picking up his friend, Petey.

Pop reminds Leroy that he has been late to work every day this week, and that he needs to start work on time because these are important life lessons. This shows us the first part of Proverbs 10:17, that He is in the way of life who heeds correction. Unfortunately, we’re seeing this through a negative lens (i.e. Leroy is NOT in the way of life because he is NOT heeding his Father’s correction).

The comic ends with Leroy telling Petey that he isn’t going to tolerate this kind of “verbal abuse” and that they can come back when Pop is off his “late-to-work nonsense.” Sadly, this shows us the second part of Proverbs 10:17: that he who forsakes reproof leads others astray. Unfortunately, Leroy is doing just that with Petey.

We have a choice how we are going to live this life: we can live it by heeding the wisdom and correction of those who love us, or we can throw that off, do our own thing, and lead others astray as a result. Who do you have speaking into your life? Remember: our lives ARE connected to others! What we do DOESN’T just affect us; it affects everyone connected to us as well. Let’s learn from Leroy’s blunders to make wise choices and listen to the God who created us, died for us, and rose from the dead. There is nothing wiser than that!
